Bab al Shams Buffetvu 859 foisThe dinner buffet was quite spectacular. On the evening we visited, the desert "fort" was not very crowded, and most of the guests ate early.

Dinner at the Bab al Shamsvu 282 foisWe went to a great outdoors dinner in a "fort" that had been created in the desert. Here's some not-so-flat flatbrad and some great cheese.

Burj al Arab Hotelvu 287 foisRising from the Arabian Sea, photographed from the small bridge that is the only access to the hotel.

Our Bedroom at the Burj al Arab -- Dubaivu 378 foisWith a spectacular view over the Arabian Sea. In the distance, they're constructing an artificial series of islands that will look like a palm tree. The palm tree can be seen from space. Nothing half-measure in Dubai.

Burj al Arab Cocktail Loungevu 1296 foisWe sat on a bit of a raised platform, and we could see Dubai itself through the windows from our perch.

"Volcano" at Entrance to Burj al Arab Hotelvu 1937 foisThe water "volcano" at the entrance to the Burj al Arab Hotel has a real Las Vegas feeling.

Marjorie Enjoying a Mojitovu 353 foisWe had our first [url=http://www.bacardimojito.com/]mojito[/ul] cocktails in Havana, where they were invented. But the mojitos at the top of the Burj al Arab Hotel in Dubai were a close second.

Dar Al Masyaf - Daytimevu 325 foisThe view from our "boat stop" on the canal system at the Dar Al Masyaf villas, with Marjorie waiting for the next boat. The top of the Burj al Arab Hotel can just been seen peeking over the top of the Madinat Jumeirah.
burj-bathtub.jpg
Our Bathtub -- Burj al Arab Hotelvu 4816 foisOur suite (all rooms at the Burj al Arab Hotel are suites) covered two floors, with a long curving staircase connecting the floors. We had a large shower and a big round bath tub, complete with a painting of Dubai.

Waiting to Go In The Submarine to Dinnervu 278 foisIn the Burj al Arab, the seafood restaurant is supposedly below the sea. To get there, you take a "submarine" that's more like a Disneyland ride. I'm in the holding area, waiting for our "submarine" to arrive. The restaurant has a huge fish tank, so it's like eating (I guess) underwater.

Dar Al Masyaf - Night Timevu 382 foisThis is the view from our "boat stop" on the canal system at the Dar Al Masyaf villas. To get to dinner we waited for a boat to pick us up. The ride to the souk only took a few minutes. Now that's civilised!

Marjorie Pushing The Flower Cartvu 300 foisIt was amazing how many fresh flowers there were at the Burj al Arab Hotel, and they were changed frequently.
