Marjorie and I were walking up the street (same direction as the girl with the yellow shoulder bag) on a sunny spring afternoon. A large man on a cell phone came out from behind the bus shelter (on the left in this photo) and blocked my path. Others crowded me from behind when I stopped suddenly, and my wallet was gone. The police didn't really care -- this is apparently typical in St. Petersburg.%02. %622 %2007

When we did so, on a bright spring afternoon (our wedding anniversary), my camera was stolen. I'd just entered the underpass, and as my eyes adjusted to the gloom someone bumped into me quite hard, and I knew my camera was gone when my left shoulder suddenly didn't feel the weight. This meant a side-trip to Helsinki, and we still arrived in St. Petersburg a day late. This hotel, at the airport, was clean but basic. Nobody to help with our luggage, so Marjorie had to put it on a chair we "borrowed" from the business centre. She pushed the luggage to our tiny room on the chair.%02. %622 %2007
