Burj al Arab Hotelvista 511 vecesHere the Kevlar "sail" is in its blue-green period.
burj-front.jpg
Burj al Arab Hotelvista 847 vecesThis is the "sail" portion of the Burj al Arab Hotel, made from Kevlar. It is lit in various changing colours at night. Here it's in its purple mode.
burj-beach.jpg
Burj al Arab Hotel -- Dubaivista 9715 vecesPhotographed from the beach at the Madinat Jumeirah. The Burj al Arab -- Tower of the Arabs -- rises above the Arabian Sea, and was built to look like a sail. The right side of the hotel is made from Kevlar, the bullet-proof material. Look at the crowd on the beach.

Craig and Marjorie Before Dinnervista 901 vecesI just held the camera out with one hand and pressed the shutter. My foot really hurt on this whole trip, but if we didn't take the trip ("bought" with British Airways miles) by December 1, we were told we'd lose it. So I took golf carts everywhere, or sat by the pool. Easy, peasy in Dubai.
burj-lobby.jpg
Atrium of Burj al Arab Hotelvista 5045 vecesPhotographed from the lower lobby, looking up through the fountains and the large gold columns. They love gold in the Burj al Arab!
burj-breakfast.jpg
Breakfast at the Burj al Arab Hotelvista 5044 vecesMarjorie having breakfast. We were surrounded by plants from Hawaii (or from tropical islands) like the naupaka. The poor things were struggling: I suspect the humidity is too low in Dubai, or it's too hot -- or both.
burj-bar.jpg
Burj al Arab Cocktail Loungevista 4915 vecesThis colourful cocktail lounge actually sticks out from near the top of the Burj al Arab hotel. So we were actually hundreds of feet above the Arabian Sea.
burj-front2.jpg
Burj al Arab Hotelvista 287 vecesRising from the Arabian Sea, photographed from the small bridge that is the only access to the hotel.
Burj-bedroom.jpg
Our Bedroom at the Burj al Arab -- Dubaivista 378 vecesWith a spectacular view over the Arabian Sea. In the distance, they're constructing an artificial series of islands that will look like a palm tree. The palm tree can be seen from space. Nothing half-measure in Dubai.
burj-bar1.jpg
Burj al Arab Cocktail Loungevista 1296 vecesWe sat on a bit of a raised platform, and we could see Dubai itself through the windows from our perch.
burj-fountain.jpg
"Volcano" at Entrance to Burj al Arab Hotelvista 1937 vecesThe water "volcano" at the entrance to the Burj al Arab Hotel has a real Las Vegas feeling.

Marjorie Enjoying a Mojitovista 353 vecesWe had our first [url=http://www.bacardimojito.com/]mojito[/ul] cocktails in Havana, where they were invented. But the mojitos at the top of the Burj al Arab Hotel in Dubai were a close second.
