Stable Gate at Lucies Farm274 viewsPhotographed from the track, as though arriving at the gate. It opens inward (the motor is on the left in this photograph, latch on the right). The stable yard lies within. The two strands of wire on the top of the gate are part of the Gallagher electric fence system which surrounds Maggot's Croft.

Stable Gate at Lucies Farm307 viewsLooking from the latch end towards the motor. This motor, installed in early 2005 to replace an earlier motor, is mounted on a separate, metal gate post, and it opens and closes the gate (or at least it did, before it was broken by the windstorm) using the metal arm.

Latch on Stable Gate314 viewsThis Came electronic latch was installed by Automation Gates in early 2005. The stable gate is exposed to direct wind, and the installers indicated that the wind on the gate was breaking the arm that connected the gate with the motor. At the same time, the motor was replaced with a different --- and presumably better --- motor. The latch meant that when the gate closed it would be supported, against the wind, on both ends. But the latch didn't always engage --- usually because of the wind.

Stable Gate at Lucies Farm320 viewsPhotographed from the stable yard, looking down our track (with Gregorz manually latching the gate). The motor that should open and close the gate is on the right in this photograph. As is shown, the gate is exposed to the elements, and wind coming down the track and from the neighbour's field hits the gate staight on.
