Japanese Maple & Japanese Lantern195 x bekekenThe maple is planted outside my office window to keep the (rare) summer sunlight out of my eyes. It seems to be taking over. The Japanese lantern is from outside our Makaiwa Street home in Hawaii, from the 1960's and 1970's.

This is just a small part of an otherwise boring picture, mostly showing unattractive rocks and an unremarkable cove. But these people look so happy.

Repairing the Non-Return Valve - Whitecroft Track205 x bekekenWe had problems on Friday and Saturday because, without notice, Severn Trent needed to replace the non-return sewer valve. Apparently they couldn't inspect it in March because they couldn't open the manhole cover. But nothing was done, until our neighbour's house flooded with sewage. Looks like this guy got the manhole cover open! July 29 2005

The Truckman on Crookbarrow Road242 x bekekenWe had to abandon the Truckman here on the Friday night of the great rainstorm of 2007. We then had all sorts of problems with MMA, the insurance company that we pay for rescue/recovery services. I spent an hour in the Truckman, in the pouring rain, waiting for MMA to answer their 24/7 help line. They never did.

The Crowd Alongside the Red Carpet169 x bekekenIt's always amusing when we walk down the red carpet to go into the BAFTA Film Awards. I always think the crowd wonders, "Who are those people anyway?" I took their picture --- they seemed pleased.

Our Seats in the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden1584 x bekekenThe 2008 BAFTA Film Awards. Our seats were in the last row of the highest balcony. We could barely see the stage. As I walk, slowly, with a stick I was worried that I was miles from the nearest lift (or even exit) should there be any sort of a problem.
