Saturday Morning Breakfast - Home Made Pancakes with Worms866 viewsOne of our week-end treats is to have pancakes with "real" (i.e. fake) maple syrup. Marjorie cooked up a batch on Saturday. They looked good, but my first bite felt, er, "crunchy." I looked down on my plate and saw this little critter. Where had it come from?! A further search yielded a veritable collection of moths which we seem to have imported in some dates or nuts from Dubai. Yum, yum. We had toast and spring cleaned the cupboard!!

The Old and The New862 viewsThe magnolia tree in our front garden -- a new blossom, and an old. The magnolia is an ancient genus that evolved before bees appeared. The flowers are designed to be pollinated by beetles. This is a Southern Magnolia, or Magnolia grandiflora.

The Great January 2004 Storm859 viewsWe'd been warned for several days (including full page newspaper articles) that the Great Storm was coming. And, of course, the weather was beautiful. But the storm finally hit on January 28 2004, and lasted precisely ten minutes. This is our front garden at Whitecroft viewed through the snow.

Large Lady, Small Car858 viewsMarjorie and I were having a won ton min at Wing Yip in Birmingham when this large lady came out of another oriental restaurant. To my amusement she went right to this small red car and hopped in.

Marjorie and Cathy - Heathrow857 viewsCathy leaving to return to Australia after her two-week visit. Her Singapore Airlines flight delayed by two hours. We went to Sbarro as it was all that was open. I wanted spaghetti with meatballs, but they only had the meatballs. So I had meat lasagna, and the kind Sbarro man cut a meatball in quarters and hid it under my lasagna. The girls had vegetable lasagna which they ate in full, despite the absence of a smuggled meatball.

Pool and Back Garden at Whitecroft857 viewsWe've had the pool liner replaced, again. Haven't actually put a toe in the outside pool since 1996 or so. It's been quite a chore to get it clean --- lots of ugly algae and other things. Looks like we'll have it ready --- in time for autumn.
