Latch on Stable Gate695 viewsThis Came electronic latch was installed by Automation Gates in early 2005. The stable gate is exposed to direct wind, and the installers indicated that the wind on the gate was breaking the arm that connected the gate with the motor. At the same time, the motor was replaced with a different --- and presumably better --- motor. The latch meant that when the gate closed it would be supported, against the wind, on both ends. But the latch didn't always engage --- usually because of the wind.

My arrival at Lucies Farm691 viewsBelinda arriving at Lucies Farm to begin her role as our house cow. She's milked by hand twice each day, and her full-fat fresh Guernsey milk is used in scrambled eggs --- the breakfast of most of our doggie guests.

Doorbars HQ in Downtown Worcester689 viewsOur Czech farm hands assisted Richard Pugh by painting the exterior of the Doorbars building --- green. I think it looks great. October 28 2006, a typical dreary day in sunny Worcestershire.

Aberdeen Angus Bull -- "Ballet"687 viewsQuite an experience having a huge black bull stare at you. But he's just a pussycat, I hope.

Stable Gate at Lucies Farm687 viewsLooking from the latch end towards the motor. This motor, installed in early 2005 to replace an earlier motor, is mounted on a separate, metal gate post, and it opens and closes the gate (or at least it did, before it was broken by the windstorm) using the metal arm.

Stable Gate at Lucies Farm685 viewsPhotographed from the stable yard, looking down our track (with Gregorz manually latching the gate). The motor that should open and close the gate is on the right in this photograph. As is shown, the gate is exposed to the elements, and wind coming down the track and from the neighbour's field hits the gate staight on.

Merlin the Guernsey Bull684 viewsIt's a bit silly, but we have one Guernsey house cow (Carole) and one Guernsey bull (Merlin). They are very lovey-dovey, and spend a tremendous amount of each day grooming each other. In this photo Merlin looks a bit like a Roman devil-god. I think it's his short, stubby horns.

The Kune Kune - Gloucester Old Spot Cross672 viewsThe particularly ugly pig is my daughter's. The pig is a cross between a Kune Kune pig (from New Zealand --- translates to "fat and round") and a Gloucester Old Spot pig. We never quite understood how the cross took place, but it did --- and produced this rather strange pig with wattles. They're called piri piri or dew laps that hang from the lower jaw, and their purpose is not known.

The Truckman on Crookbarrow Road669 viewsWe had to abandon the Truckman here on the Friday night of the great rainstorm of 2007. We then had all sorts of problems with MMA, the insurance company that we pay for rescue/recovery services. I spent an hour in the Truckman, in the pouring rain, waiting for MMA to answer their 24/7 help line. They never did.

Our New Guernsey Calf663 viewsLooking a bit skinny, but Guernsey cattle always look a bit skinny to me. But also looking cute. Unfortunately (for him) he's a male.
