Statue of Liberty from the Deck of the QE2št. ogledov:685Arriving in New York City by large ocean liner is thrilling. This was a warm spring day, April 1991. It was the first crossing of the year for the QE2 and we were a day late because we encountered 55 foot waves in the North Atlantic. The Statue of Liberty is in the distance.

The Sisters in A Park In Perth, Australiašt. ogledov:682Marjorie, Little Legs, Cathy, and Ann in a park in downtown Perth that has a big tree on its side. We were in Perth to interview sales people for Transax Australia.

British Airways Jet Taking Off from Heathrowšt. ogledov:676We were at the 2006 Wag and Bone Show at Windsor Great Park, which (I suppose) is tecnically part of Windsor Castle. The park is in the flight path of Heathrow, with planes flying overhead every few minutes.

Cao Dai Temple, Viet Namšt. ogledov:672"Indigenous to Vietnam Cao Dai is a fusion of the best from Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism, with Christianity and Islam thrown in for good measure. Cao Daoism was founded in Vietnam only as recently as the 1920's as the answer to the ultimate ideal religion and insists that its' earth-based intermediaries or messengers include such luminaries as William Shakespeare, Joan of Arc and Napoleon Bonaparte."

Big and Little Clowns, Germanyšt. ogledov:663Somewhere in Germany -- probably Baden Baden. I've never liked clowns: I find them unsettling. And here are two of them, big and little.

Nordkapp - North Cape - Norwayšt. ogledov:662The midnight sun (photographed at midnight) from the most northerly part of Europe. "The North Cape was named by English explorer Richard Chancellor in 1553 when he passed the cape in the search for a Northeast passage. From then on, it was occasionally visited by daring explorers who climbed the steep cliff face to the plateau; famous visitors include King Oscar II of Norway in 1873 and Thailand's King Chulalongkorn in 1907. Today, the North Cape is a major tourist attraction."

Taking a stroll across the bridgešt. ogledov:649This bridge fords the River Rhine. It is right next to the Hyatt Hotel and is a pedestrian and rail bridge. Here we are off into Cologne for an evening meal of German food.

Marjorie and the Viet Cong in the Cu Chi Tunnelsšt. ogledov:645The Cu Chi tunnels, a 75-mile-long underground maze where thousands of fighters and villagers could hide, are at the top of the list of tourist spots for Ho Chi Minh City. Marjorie was able to crawl through the lower levels (I'm too big). There was also this "photo op" spot, complete with fake rice bowls.

The View From Our Hotel in Northern Norwayšt. ogledov:638The brown industrial building is the rest of our hotel. We were in the "annex" on the top of the hill. Can you imagine four (or so) months of cold darkness here?

|

Steve Patch and Ann Heward at the Supper Clubšt. ogledov:634I read about the Supper Club in Amsterdam in Conde Nast Traveller and we made reservations. At that time you ate on large beds. The restaurant didn't have its name on the door, wasn't in the telephone directory, and the concierge in our hotel had never heard of it. The new Supper Club website looks very swish, but perhaps not as much fun.
