Wisteria - Whitecroftvista 619 vecesI've always been disappointed by our Wisteria vine. It seems to bloom late (if at all) and then it's not very nice. I think we made the mistake of putting it on a north-facing wall. This year, 2004, the flowers were the best I've seen. But still not as good as others I've seen. Perhaps 2005?

Marjorie and Me, Christmas Day 1985vista 619 vecesWe'd just finished our Christmas dinner at Chez Michel in Waikiki. Marjorie expected "Christmas food" --- turkey and things. But our only choice was classic French cuisine. I can't believe I was ever that thin.

The Mine in Dartmouthvista 619 vecesThere is a big red mine on the sea front in Dartmouth with a coin slot. The brass plaque says that all funds go to The Shipwrecked Fisherman & Mariners Royal Benevolent Society, but the mine seemed full. As the mine is about a meter in diameter --- if it's full of coins it must be holding a treasure trove.

Magnolia Blossom - Whitecroftvista 617 vecesI love Magnolias. Great, huge, pure white flowers. It's a shame that they seem to fall apart so quickly, so it's hard to bring them in the house for a big floral display. (Unless there's some secret that only Southern belles learn, while drinking juleps.) This magnolia bud is in our large tree, Whitecroft, on a hot summer afternoon.

Opening Ceremony -- Winter Olympics Torino 2006vista 617 vecesAs the opening ceremony drew to a close, they lowered a huge curtain in front of us. Incredibly, we could only see a tiny bit of the fireworks as we were essentially backstage.
