Statue of Liberty from the Deck of the QE2905 viewsArriving in New York City by large ocean liner is thrilling. This was a warm spring day, April 1991. It was the first crossing of the year for the QE2 and we were a day late because we encountered 55 foot waves in the North Atlantic. The Statue of Liberty is in the distance.

Marjorie with a Swimming Pool of Coffee904 viewsWe visited the lovely (not) Strensham Motorway Services on the M5 and Marjorie ordered coffee. I don't think she expected quite this large a cup.

Lanters at the Bab al Shams901 viewsAs Marjorie and I went off to have an evening cocktail, these lanterns in a small courtyard were turned on, and it was quite magical.

Steve Patch and Ann Heward at the Supper Club900 viewsI read about the Supper Club in Amsterdam in Conde Nast Traveller and we made reservations. At that time you ate on large beds. The restaurant didn't have its name on the door, wasn't in the telephone directory, and the concierge in our hotel had never heard of it. The new Supper Club website looks very swish, but perhaps not as much fun.

Marjorie and the Viet Cong in the Cu Chi Tunnels899 viewsThe Cu Chi tunnels, a 75-mile-long underground maze where thousands of fighters and villagers could hide, are at the top of the list of tourist spots for Ho Chi Minh City. Marjorie was able to crawl through the lower levels (I'm too big). There was also this "photo op" spot, complete with fake rice bowls.
