Three Old Gentleman268 odsłonThese three old gentlemen --- Batman, Brad, and McVit --- are all that's left from our small herd of alpacas. We decided, after our visit to Peru, that nobody in their right mind would pay 4,000 or more for an animal that has one cria a year (if you're lucky) and can produce enough fibre for a 45 sweater each season. But they sure are cute.

The Three Alpacas222 odsłonOur three alpacas are getting on in years --- they are circa 13 or 14 years old. These three gentlemen were born at Lucies Farm. They remind me of three old bachelors, playing cards and smoking cigars.

Shall We Dance? Alpaca Shearing311 odsłonThese two gentlemen, from New Zealand, spend a couple of months touring the U.K. and shearing circa 4,000 alpacas. Our three are old men and their fleece isn't of particularly good quality. But we have them sheared because it's healthier for the alpacas.

Alpaca Shearing at Lucies Farm325 odsłonThis is the third alpaca to be sheared. He watched the shearers tie up the other alpacas' legs, so he's a bit more crafty.

Pigs Lined Up At The Fence5575 odsłonThe young Tamworth boars (red) and young Berkshire boar, Westbrook (black) line up at the fence --- with the alpacas in the background.

Three Sheared Alpacas613 odsłonThey look a bit skinny and sad, but it was hot today (July 3 2005) and I bet they were pleased to be out of their thick alpaca wool "sweaters."
