Old Family Photos

Going through these old photographs has been quite surrealistic. As I play with the images with Photoshop, removing scratches and blemishes, fixing exposures, balancing colours, it's like spending time with ghosts. I'm aware that in many of the photographs, everyone is now deceased. Yet here they are, looking young. People whom I thought were "old" look much younger in these pictures than I am now.

Bull Terriers

Living with Bull Terriers is always an experience. Misinformed people think these are horrid animals, owned by drug pushers, who devour children. But the Bull Terrier --- more accurately the English Bull Terrier --- was bred in the Victorian era to be a "gentleman's dog." And our two are gentlemen.

Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness

I do volunteer photography (buildings, gravestones, etc.) for folks all over the world as part of the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness project. I am unable to do research --- don't have the skills --- but if you point me towards a graveyard in our area of the U.K., I'm glad to go and try to find a grave, inscription, etc.

Saturday Morning Breakfast - Home Made Pancakes with Worms385 viewsOne of our week-end treats is to have pancakes with "real" (i.e. fake) maple syrup. Marjorie cooked up a batch on Saturday. They looked good, but my first bite felt, er, "crunchy." I looked down on my plate and saw this little critter. Where had it come from?! A further search yielded a veritable collection of moths which we seem to have imported in some dates or nuts from Dubai. Yum, yum. We had toast and spring cleaned the cupboard!!
